MANILA — Municipal Mayor Alfredo P. Valdez, Jr. accepts Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) Award for the Municipality of San Nicolas, Ilocos Norte at the Tent City Manila Hotel.

The award was given by newly-appointed Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Eduardo M. Año together with senators Loren Legarda and Sonny Angara.

DILG earlier said that awardees will be given the 2018 SGLG marker, the Performance Challenge Fund (PCF) amounting to P3.2 million which can be used to finance development programs of the municipality; and access to other programs and assistance from the department.

This year, awardees were chosen based on local government units (LGUs) compliance across stricter and more rigid areas as follows: Financial Administration, Disaster Preparedness, Social Protection, Peace and Order, Business Friendliness, Environmental Protection, and Tourism, Culture, and Arts.

The SGLG is a progressive assessment system adopted by the DILG to give distinction to remarkable local government performance.

In Ilocos Norte, there are four (4) other LGUs that receive the same award namely: Bacarra, Currimao, Paoay and Piddig.
